OpenMailbox
A mail app that keeps your mail on your own device
For macOS and Windows. In private testing.
OpenMailbox is a desktop mail app from OpenApps. You add your mailboxes (Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, or any address with IMAP) and read, search and send from one window. The mail is downloaded to your computer and stays there. We run no server that receives your mail, your passwords or your sign-ins.
What it does
- Several mailboxes as one. Put mailboxes in a group and read them together.
- Share a mailbox with people you choose. Invite a teammate as a full member, or as a limited member who can only read, and only the mail you pick, for example sign-in codes from named senders. You can see what they did and remove them at any time.
- Let an AI agent help, on your terms. An agent on your computer can be allowed to read and draft. Nothing it writes is sent until you approve it.
- Protect the reader. Remote images are not loaded unless you ask, and text a message hides from view is removed before you or an agent sees it.
How OpenMailbox uses your Google account
If you add a Gmail mailbox with Sign in with Google, you sign in on Google's own page in your browser. OpenMailbox never sees your Google password. Google then gives the app on your computer permission to read, send and organise your Gmail, which the app uses for exactly that: to show you your mail and send the mail you write, over Google's standard mail servers.
That permission is stored in your computer's keychain, and the mail it fetches is stored in an encrypted file on your computer. Neither is sent to OpenApps. You can take the permission back at any time in your Google Account, or by removing the mailbox in the app.
The full details are in the OpenMailbox privacy policy.
